Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge) is the mastermind behind Netflix’s newest original series, The Get Down.

The Get Down is a musical drama set in 1970s New York City. There’s no release date for the series yet, but it’s set to debut in 2016. The first season is scheduled for thirteen 1 hour long episodes.

That’s the perfect length for binge watching on the weekends. If the series has as much energy as the trailer does, we should be in for a treat.

The Get Down’s talented cast includes Tremaine Brown Jr., Skylan Brooks, Giancarlo Esposito, Shameik Moore (Dope), Jimmy Smits, Karen Aldridge, Jaden Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Justice Smith, Mamoudou Athie, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
