Trailer: Netflix’s The Get Down

 

Neftlix continues to deliver some of televisions most innovative programming. Next up is  Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down.

The musical TV series, set in late 1970’s New York City, looks like a roller coaster ride of music, family, love, and gangs. It’ll be interesting to see how Lurhmann weaves the musical numbers with the storylines.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the show:

The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to a new art form. Set in New York in 1977, this music-driven drama series chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the last days of disco -– told through the lives, music, art and dance of the South Bronx kids who would change the world forever.

The Get Down is also executive produced by Nasir “Nas’ Jones, who also produced the new coming of age drama The Land. The series is set for 13 episodes and scheduled to release on August 12th.

Singer-songwriter Herizen Guardiola is set to be the breakout star in this talented young cast.

Along with Guardiola, the cast includes Dope’s Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Jaden Smith, Sklan Brooks, T. J Brown Jr. Jimmy Smits, and Giancarlo Esposito.
