2024’s Bonebat Comedy of Horrors Film Festival was held at SIFF Cinema Uptown. It was another year of incredible shorts, insane feature films, and the music stylings of The Pine Box Boys. Here are some of the standout shorts I saw. Check BoneBat for a full list of films that showed and more information about the festival.
No Signature Required – Directed by Kenneth Lawrence
It’s hard to put into words what exactly happens but it’s very disturbing and worth a watch. The ending is a bit unsettling but in the best way. Lawrence’s directing says so much in this doc that doesn’t have any dialogue.
In The Mirrors – Directed by Merlin Camozzi
This is one of the shorts that feels like an episode of Tales from the Crypt. The short takes a rational fear people have and takes it up about 10 notches. If you like to stay in Airbnbs, you may want to skip this one.
English Tutor – Directed by Jaho Koo
I don’t know what’s happening in the Republic of Korea but they’ve made some very disturbing films and this is one of them. English Tutor isn’t even that scary but it’s incredibly unnerving. Watch the trailer below to get a feeling for the vibes in this film.
My Scary Indian Wedding – Directed by Ramone Menon
I would love to see this story as a full length film. In a few short minutes they build this story that’s rich with lore and 1,000 terrifying twist and turns. I hope Blumhouse takes this story and gives us a feature.

I’m In Danger – Directed by Nicky Smit
This is one of the best films of the festival. The story unfolds so fast that you don’t have time to figure out where its going. By the time you get the incredible reveal, you know what’s in store and that makes it that much more satisfying.
The Reclaimers – Directed by Jason Sheedy
Wow! This may be the best short I’ve seen in years. I’ve attached the trailer but I would recommend going in blind to see this short. This is one of the shorts that I wouldn’t be shocked if it was picked up and turned into a film or series. It’s that good. Erin Ownbey and Boone the dog are so good, I could watch them for hours.
Knock Knock (Knock) – Directed by Brendan Cleaves
This is the short that I believe captures the spirt of BoneBat. It’s funny look at something scary with a twisted sense of humor sprinkled in. This is the one short that had multiple laugh out loud moments.
